NaNoWriMo Check-In!

This entry is part 10 of 10 in the series NaNoWriMo 2011

Dear Reader,

Wowmygod this month has been nuts! With everything going on, the sickness, the moving, the holidays, I’m surprised I’ve managed to write anything. At this point I’m just shy of 45,000 words for the month, and NaNoWriMo ends on Wednesday. I can totally do 5K in the next few days! I can!

This hasn’t been an easy writing month, that’s for sure. I started working on a project I’m very excited about. Sex on Wheels is the first roller derby contemporary book in a series I want to write. I’ve wanted to write about derby for a while, but it wasn’t the right time. When I retired from playing, there was unnecessary drama that happened that soured me on my experience, and I’ve needed time and distance from that. Well, now I’ve had it and I want to use my time as inspiration for a great series. However, I ran into some road blocks that couldn’t be tackled during NaNo, so after several weeks and a strong start, I’ve set it aside.

So I’ve been working on something I hope to be a holiday release next year. It’s set in space and has sharks, which is a little different and kind of crazy. Mostly it’s an excuse to write about sharks and listen to holiday music. I expect to get half of the story written during NaNo and wrap it up in December.

Overall, the writing time I’ve had, has been good. It’s just been a matter of getting that time. With everything else, the juggling of writing and settling in and getting ready for the holidays has killed me. But, Thanksgiving is over, it was nice, and now I can focus the last few days of the month on being serious writing days.

Are you participating in NaNo? How’s it going?
