Happy Monday!!
I promised I would share this last week, but with How Zombies Stole Christmas released I was way too crazy to really talk about it.
Recap, Thursday was not only book release day, it was my birthday. And this year I decided I would give myself a tattoo. So I rounded up a few fabulous friends and conned them into spending the day with me.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again–if you’re going to get a tattoo, research your shop. I chose to go with an artist I’ve gone to in the past. Chance over at Empire Tattoo Parlor is excellent to work with. It’s a super fun little shop. They only do tattoos and custom work, so it’s a little different than a lot of shops you might walk into. We had some really interesting conversations about publishing. My artist writes kids books!!
A lot of my tattoo was hand-drawn, so I sat there for a while. I’ve had this idea for a while, so it was really surreal sitting there about to get it. I think the endorphins gave me a little pre-pain buffer.
I can’t actually watch myself getting tattooed. I get all sick to my stomach. So I spent the time tweeting and talking to the peanut gallery, who are responsible for all the pictures, which you can see over on Facebook.
I won’t lie. The wrist was a super painful place to get tattooed. I’ve been inked in a lot of places, and the wrist might be the most painful, though my arm was the more painful tattoo just because of the duration spent getting tattooed. Anyways, it fucking hurt!
Here’s an in-process picture of it. You can see all the ink and blood wiped all over my arm. It’s a bit messy of a process.
And here’s the finished product!! I love it. 🙂

Cute little traditional anchor! I like it :)I know what you mean about not being able to watch. Even though I tattoo all day long, I still can’t stand watching when I get some ink myself.

Hi, thanks for the post! I love that inks have their stories! I’ve been avoiding tattoos but when I got my custom made one I undestood it can look really awesome on your skin. I don’t understand how people can get a tattoo from a catalogue without knowing anything about meaning. What do you think about custom made tattoos? Thanks
