Flirty Fridays: We’re totally alike!

So my friend Suzan and I have decided that Fridays are going to be about our online dating communications. Be prepared for a little snark, a lot of sarcasm and no exposing of identities.

I got this message this last week. Now, before I even read the message I knew it was going to be a no. I’m open to dating older guys, but my experience thus far has been that if guys are too old, I’m simply too hyper active for them. I love hanging out on the couch, but I also want to be able to get up and go, go, go some weekends. This guy had no picture, which is often a big no for me simply because I have several images of myself, even if they don’t make me look completely amazing, they represent me honestly. Besides that, he’s 41, which is a considerable age difference. There’s very few people that I think can click with that much of a difference between them, sadly, I didn’t think I was, but he took the time to message me so he at least deserved a read, right?

So, is it just me or does the opener of this sound like one of those mass spam emails you get in your inbox occasionally and have to filter it over to spam? Yeah, I almost stopped reading. While I’m pretty sure it’s the dating site equivalent of spam, at least it was a long message with some narcissism thrown in. Is it just me, or do the wonky lines look like a random copy and paste?

On to what he actually says!

We have the same interests? His include coffee and Dexter, I highly doubt that a relationship can be built on Dexter since I don’t drink coffee. If you’ve never seen Dexter, it’s a Showtime program about a vigilante serial killer. Again, not something I want to base a romantic relationship on.

Any time someone wants to take communication off a dating website I get wary. I think of the Craigslist Killer years ago and consider my own safety and instances with stalkers in the past. This is yet another huge red flag.

What I loved about this was the second paragraph. People used to hit him up because of how damn sexy his pictures were. People weren’t understanding who he really was. They just wanted him for his man meat and pretty looks! I don’t believe this. I rolled my eyes a lot.

So, this is a no. Not even going to open that can of worms! Moving on.

Oh, my God! I’m too sexy for pictures! I’m so distracting that they only want my body!

I thought guys liked that kind of thing…

Yeah, communication outside the dating site is a big no when you don’t know the person. Huge red flag. So glad you’re a smartypants. I kind of like having you around. On occasion. 🙂

I figured he took the photos off because he’s so ugly he was getting rude comments. I never even thought he took them down because he’s so hot.
My wife and I met through an online dating site and we’ve been married 12 years but it almost didn’t happen. My profile was horrible and we lived in different towns (which she didn’t notice). My wife thought it’ll be a cold day in hell before I respond to him. A few days later her town iced over so she sent me a message. We ended up IMing for 8 hours then another 8 the next day, and then talked on the phone for 6 hours that night. We’ve been together ever since.
Fortunately we have a lot in common but we also have opposite strengths so that things I’m not good at she is and vice versa. I’m not saying you should give the guy a chance because having one thing in common and the oddly seeming spam first paragraph does not make the guy sound desirable in the least! I am saying that there are good guys out there and I hope you find one. 🙂
