Guest Blogger: Jayne Kingston’s getting kinky!

Hi, Sidney! Thank you for letting me hang out on your blog today!

I have something of a confession to make—I never intended to write BDSM.

For one, it has been done, and done exceptionally well, countless times before. For two, I wasn’t personally familiar with the subject aside from the fiction I’d read, starting with Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty Trilogy way back in the day. And the closest I’d ever gotten to a BDSM club was when my brother came home from a softball tournament in New York and told me about some of the NYPD team members dropping him and his small-town Ohio buddies off at a club that had dark alley access and lots of leather-clad people inside.

When it became obvious that Mr. Sir wanted to be written as kinky, I knew I had some serious research to do. There are some crazy places to be found online. I came across videos that made me scratch my head and wonder why on earth anyone would let another person do something like that to them. Others made me giggle because they struck me as silly. The first few community websites I found didn’t tell me much, and the first book I tried was repetitive, rambling and often contradicted itself.

I got frustrated quickly. I needed something to click, and nothing was resonating with me. I just *knew* if I wrote the story I’d be laughed right out of my brand new writing career.

So I DNF’d that first book and tried another. And hit pay dirt. It was beautifully written and full of anecdotes from some of the Dom author’s real life experiences, some of which made me think, “Ooo, that’s pretty hot!” (He also said don’t watch internet videos if you’re a newbie because they can be scary. Too bad I hadn’t found his book first.) There was another written by submissive women whose insights were invaluable to me. After that I found extremely informative blogs and websites and more books…

The one common thread I found everywhere, and the thing I needed to hear more than anything else, is that it doesn’t matter if you’re into bondage and domination, submission, a sadist or a masochist, there is no wrong way to play. Everyone’s idea of kinky, including yours and mine, is uniquely their own.

mrsir_msrBlurb:

Even the most dedicated Dom/sub couples are subject to the pitfalls of domesticity. Right?

Owen and Grace’s kinky life has become a thing of the past. A year has passed since Owen’s job moved him to a new city and away from all of their old friends. New city, new friends, new house—no play. And it’s making both of them really cranky.

After Grace attempts to take matters into her own hands on their tenth wedding anniversary, Owen realizes he’s failing her as her Dom. He comes up with just the thing to get them back on track—a surprise custom made to keep his feisty little sub bound and begging for more for years to come. At least if everything goes to plan.

Great post, Jayne. I’ve dabbled in mild BDSM in my writing, and I’ve shared a lot of your fears: the “Why on Earth would anyone let someone do that???” reaction, and the worry about it all just seeming silly.

I think you’re totally right, we all have to find our own idea of kinky, and when it clicks, that’s when it becomes totally hot.

Speaking of hot, I love the cover of Mr. Sir. Gorgeous.
