#ROW80 is A Round of Words in 80 Days. It’s a quarterly writing challenge where you define your personal goals and blog each week about your progress. It’s made to be flexible and allow for tweaking.
Oh man, two books out, I feel like I’m on the downhill slope for this month. It’s a pretty big relief to be half way done with the month and by extension, the promo circus. My hosts have been awesome, I’ve had some really fun conversations with readers, and I’ve heard some good things about A Kiss for a Cure. Still nothing on Collar Me in Paris, but I expect that.
That said, this week has still been rather stressful. I’ll talk about that later.
Writing Goals
With the release days taken care of, my biggest responsibility is getting the blogs finished. I have three left, which are due at the very end of the month, so it’s not urgent and I can work those in when I can over the next few days.
The biggest news as far as writing goes is that I’m changing around what I’m writing. The zombie short story wants to be a novella, so I’m going to charge ahead with that plan. There’s stuff going on around it, and I’m excited about it, so I’m going to make that happen and see what else can get done this month.
I intended to finish a novel I’ve been calling Service Optional. The problem here is that I haven’t written on it in almost two months and I’ve decided to shelf it for a while simply because there is a shorter series I’ve been wanting to write and is partially written. It’s complicated and I don’t really want to spell it all out because no one really cares about all of my neurotic writer brain things. 🙂
It’s disappointing on one level to shelf a project, but exciting to be going back to this short series I’ve been excited about for years. I just haven’t made the time to write it. I’m going to do that this year, but it has to fit behind the most urgent projects, so that will happen.
Social Goals
I have and haven’t been social. I’ve hung out a lot with my best friend and the guy, but that’s about it. With the exception of Saturday, which was a circus all its own. I had the monthly RWA meeting, got my hair trimmed, then did dinner with a friend and went to a party thrown by another friend. It was a long, tiring day — but oh so fun.
This week will be nuts for me. I’m leaving tomorrow for the Sassy Seven Sleepover and that will be the focus through Sunday. It should be a really fun, intimate reader-author event. I’m driving down with two friends, so that should be a riot. There are a lot of events planned, like dancing, a male review, a bling party and a shoe party. There might be a novelty toy party as well, but I can’t totally remember, to be honest. But there’s a lot going on! That’s the point.
Next week is going to be super stressful on the day job front, so no telling how much I’ll be around the blog. Here’s hoping I don’t get pulled away too long!
I understand your feelings about putting something on a shelf. I’ve been surprised in my short (so far!) career as a writer at how many opportunities I find that I want to take advantage of. Sometimes that means putting aside something I love but has no due date in favor of something new and shiny with a deadline.
I’m currently struggling with deciding where to put my energy.
